In case of display image from many cameras, multiplexers were used to display many cameras on one tv receiver. Nowadays digital technology replaces analog one. Main advantage of digital systems is ethernet network usage as a transmission medium and digital recorders which allows signal from many sources at once. It allows to have savings without building additional infrastructure dedicated for monitoring systems. It's possible to use wireless networks for transmission.
